Apple IPhone 3GS Review

By Jason Robinson

The Apple iPhone 3GS is the successor to the hugely popular iPhone 3G. At first glance the two phones look very similar - but that's because many of the changes have occurred inside of the phones, although the 3GS is visibly slimmer. The new phone is a more powerful device. It has a better CPU which means better speed, an improved camera and more memory. However like its predecessor it is a touch screen phone, and comes equipped with a sensitive 480 x 320 screen which is crisp and very resistant. The coating of the screen is made from an oleophobic substance.

So Apple intentionally did not want to change the look of their phone too much - as that was not the purpose of the upgrade. One of the main reason for the 3GS is alluded in its name - the "S" at the end which stands for speed. The phone is a much quicker that its predecessor and the specification proves this. RAM increased 128MB to 256MB. The processor was also improved from a speed of 412MHz to 600MHz. The changes to improve the speed on the iPhone are noticeable in the 3GS as it has a much quicker response time whilst you are doing any task. It is also faster for downloading and uploading items. A quick play with the gadget shows that is a speedy phone and one of the quicker ones available today.

Aside from the speed, storage space has also doubled. Graphics are also more accurate and more sophisticated. The camera has also undergone some important upgrading. The autofocus function will be warmly welcomed by users and additional megapixel (from the 2 megapixel to 3 megapixel) has meant an improvement of the pictures that can be taken. The zooming as well as the flash options are real improvements from the camera that was found on the original iPhone.

It seems that the main purpose of the 3GS was to bring about improved software and performance. There is also a copy and paste tool and there are many other little difference which make it a much better phone.

Finally battery life has also improved, as this was another area that the 3G was criticized for. Although many users do not feel the difference was significant enough. The iPhone 3GS is available on contract but can also be purchased outright - there are two versions, the 16GB version and the 32GB version with the latter being more expensive. This is a great phone, which has significantly improved from the original.
