Kids Should Have Special basic Cell Phones

By Lea Jolen

Moms and dads may wonder whether there are cell phones meant especially for kids and how they are different from adult cell phones. Many of the cell phones you can buy for children are of the pay as you go variety which is a nice characteristic that can put many parents minds at ease. You can also find mobile phones that are made specifically for young children that have a number of special keys for pre-chosen phone numbers and no way to dial any numbers that aren't on that list. This is great if you want your younger child to have access to only the folks you select and you don't want to worry about whether they're randomly dialing numbers and utilizing minutes.

The great thing about prepaid kids cellphones is that the parents don't have to worry about their kids charging up big phone bills. One of the worries a parent will have when contemplating getting a child their first cell phone is whether the child is going to be able to use it responsibly. With a prepaid phone, that worry is taken away and you can teach your child how to use the phone with no anxiety. More and more kids want phones now and parents are faced with the decision of what to do at a very early age. The prepaid phone takes away some of the doubt.

The older your child is, the more features they are going to demand on their phone. Young adults have now grown up with computers and technology all around them and they learn that stuff qickly and naturally. Cell phones for older children may need to have some of the safeguards their parents want but they are are going to want the real thing once they reach high school. Texting is a feature they all want as are the ability to take pictures and listen to music on the phone.

The decisions parents have in the year 2010 are very different from the ones parents had in years past. Deciding on what age to give their kids a cell phone and what phones are acceptable are only a couple of the many hard decisions that will have to be made. Peer pressure from their friends is often going to mean they are going to want more than you might be prepared to provide them. Moreover, technology keeps advancing rapidly so it is very hard for parents to keep up with it all and figure out what is acceptable and not acceptable for their kids.

Parents have to make choices that they feel comfortable with regarding their children. At what age they should get them their first mobile phone and how many parental controls it should have is something that might be different for each set of parents. After all, children mature at different times and so some may be ready for a telephone and the duty it carries way ahead of other kids.
